  3. Announcing the HP DeskJet Series V3.10 driver for Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1

  6. Overview
  7. ========

  9. The HP DeskJet Series V3.10 Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1 driver supports the
  10. DeskJet, DeskJet PLUS, DeskJet 500, DeskJet 500C, and DeskJet 550C printers.
  11. This driver supports color, greyscale, and black & white printing.  It does
  12. not support internal printer fonts, font cartridges, or soft fonts.  To access
  13. these fonts, you would use Microsoft's DeskJet Universal driver instead.  The HP
  14. DeskJet Series V3.10 Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1 driver is a graphics data-
  15. based driver, and as such, converts all information sent to the printer to
  16. graphics data.  If you are printing documents that contain mostly text and
  17. would like the ability to improve your printer's performance, you may wish
  18. to print those files with Microsoft's DeskJet Universal printer driver.

  21. The following enhancements have been added to the DeskJet Series v3.1
  22. driver:
  23.  
  24.   - Full Windows 3.0/3.1 Compatibility
  25.   - Enhanced Automated Printer Driver Installation Utility -
  26.     (Installing in Network version of Windows is now easier)
  27.   - Updated README file
  28.   - Printer Setup/Screen Fonts - The driver now displays only the screen
  29.     fonts (Intellifonts) installed through the driver and not the complete
  30.     list of window fonts (TrueType, ATM, etc.).

  32. DeskJet Family printer owners may be interested in the HP DeskJet Series
  33. V3.10 driver as it fixes the following problems in the DeskJet Series V3.0
  34. driver:

  36.   - Intuit Quicken 2.0 - Color graphs will now print in color. The user
  37.     must set the application to print in color. From Graph, select
  38.     Preferences, then Print in Color. Quicken incorrectly interfaced with
  39.     the v3.0 driver and caused us to return settings common to all our
  40.     printer models (i.e. Black/Grayscale). We have fixed the driver so that
  41.     the settings returned are printer specific.  Intuit has fixed their
  42.     calls, so future versions of Quicken should not have this problem.
  43.   - Micrografx Designer 3.1 - Printing white filled text with a
  44.     dark background works correctly when Standard dithering is selected.
  45.   - Microsoft Project 3.0 - Starting and ending shapes (milestone markers,
  46.     etc.) and color crosshatching will print in color in Standard dither.
  47.   - Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0b/Microsoft Draw - Graphics created with
  48.     Draw from Word now print as displayed.
  49.   - Microsoft Works 2.0 - Pie charts now print in color.
  50.   - Pagemaker 4.0 - Dotted and dashed borders print correctly.
  51.   - LAN installed Windows - HPSETUP installation now works on systems that
  52.     run Windows from a network server.
  53.   - TrueType/Windows 3.1 - Text over 60 points tall formatted with a drop
  54.     shadow will print correctly.  White TrueType text on a colored
  55.     background with the driver set to Standard dither will print correctly.
  56.     Tall text and text with colored backgrounds using TrueType fonts print
  57.     correctly.

  59. Application notes containing additional information on the DeskJet Series
  60. V3.10 driver are located in the file README.TXT which is in D5WN3A.ZIP.

  62. This driver is accompanied by three scalable fonts: CGTimes, Universe and
  63. Courier. All three fonts are scalable from 4 point to 127 point size at
  64. full resolution either in portrait or landscape orientation.

  70. A 80286 processor or greater is required to use the HP DeskJet Series V3.10
  71. printer driver for Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1.

  74. Memory Recommendations
  75. ======================

  77. The HP DeskJet Series V3.10 printer driver for Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1 was
  78. designed to work with supported Windows 3.0/3.1 system configurations.

  80. For Black Only print mode using the Standard Dithering method, 1 Mb (640 Kb
  81. conventional memory with 384 Kb extended memory) minimum, (2 Mb
  82. recommended).

  84. For Black Only Print Mode using either the Pattern, Cluster, or the Scatter
  85. Dithering method, 2 Mb (640 Kb conventional memory with 1408 Kb extended
  86. memory) minimum, (4 Mb recommended).

  88. For Color/Composite Black Print Mode, 2 Mb (640 Kb conventional memory with
  89. 1408 Kb extended memory) minimum, (4 Mb recommended).

  92. Disk Requirements

  95. The HP DeskJet Series V3.10 Printer Driver for Microsoft Windows 3.0/3.1
  96. requires approximately 3 Mb of free disk space for installation of the
  97. driver and the three printer fonts that come with it.

  103. The HP DeskJet Series V3.10 driver consists of the following files which are
  104. available in the DeskJet Library (5) of the HP Peripherals Forum (GO
  105. HPPER).

  118. If you have previously downloaded the DeskJet series v3.0 driver and kept a
  119. copy of D5WN3C.ZIP & D5WN3D.ZIP, you'll only need to download D5WN3A.ZIP &
  120. D5WN3B.ZIP.  The files in D5WN3C.ZIP & D5WN3D.ZIP have not changed, so you
  121. do not need to download it again, assuming you have kept a copy of this file.
